Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera, Così fan tutte debuted on January 26, 1790, at the Burgtheater in Vienna. The story of Così fan tutte takes place in Naples during the late 18th century. But that's not important right now because this isTinto Brass's version, and his ode to the feminine posterior and to sex.
Tinto Brass' All Ladies Do It (Cosi fanTutte) has to be one of the horniest odysseys ever commited to film! There's no real plot as such; it's just a girl who loves her husband, but he's a bit boring so she gets her kicks elsewhere, and he doesn't like it much. The amazing Claudia Koll is our heroine and her ass(ets) really light up the screen! It's softcore, but very suggestive and actually quite erotic at times. Sex is absolutely everything in this film, and it overtakes everything else - driving, work, upper class dinner parties, family, bereavement, ruining artwork - everything! The message comes through loud and clear - it's all about sexual liberation and basically enjoying life, which simply put is good for everyone. It's a message that is easy to get behind.
Technically, the film punches above its weight. The soundtrack is awesome and the locations happily mask the fact that the film obviously didn't have a huge budget. The outdoor party/orgy scene towards the end is a major highlight. It whips along at a brisk pace and never gets dull. I really liked it a lot.
An interesting side story - in 2000 Claudia Koll experienced a religious conversion and is now a missionary. In 2003 she made a film about the life of amn Italian saint, Maria Goretti.
